Lead Teacher: Early/Lower Elementary

Your Role

Your voice and experience will play a major role in our collaborative team environment. Working with the Red Pine Learning Community founders, the lead teacher’s responsibilities are wide-ranging, and include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching: Teach 4.5-9 year olds; Select the curriculum for all lower elementary students; Incorporate the natural world and weather conditions into curricular planning; Review the curriculum for anti-racist, anti-ableist, and inclusive content; Maintain data and observations of student learning and growth; Participate in professional development.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate with families clearly and regularly; Promote the school; Design an inclusive admissions and enrollment process; Manage scholarship programs.
  • School Operations and Administration: Create the school calendar and schedule; Conduct ongoing evaluation of the program for improvement and sustainability; Support, mentor, and learn from other teachers and assistant teachers; Assess weather conditions to make appropriate daily and weekly classroom plans; Monitor indoor air quality and engage with students and parents on principles of community care; Maintain strong systems for financial management, human resources, licensing, and compliance.

Experience: Required

A Bachelor’s degree in Education (or a related field) with at least 2 years of teaching experience.

Experience: Preferred

Teaching experience in an elementary school setting. Master’s degree in Education (or a related field). Nature-based education certification, forest school certification, or Montessori Elementary I and II or Primary credential. School administration or educational leadership experience.

Salary & Hours

Salary starts at $35/hour. There is no school on Friday afternoons (dismissal at 12 noon). Red Pine Learning Community offers paid vacation days, generous sick leave, and opportunities for professional development.

Physical Requirements

A typical day involves moving around outdoors, leading children on trails up to 2 miles per day, and lifting materials up to 30 pounds. The role requires the ability to wear an N95/KN95/KF94 mask consistent with the Red Pine Learning Community health policy, and the ability to interact with and supervise students safely.

Assistant Teacher: Early/Lower Elementary

  • School Operations and Administration: Contribute to ongoing evaluation of the program for improvement and sustainability; Support and learn from other teachers and assistant teachers; Assess weather conditions for appropriate daily and weekly classroom plans; Monitor indoor air quality and engage with students on principles of community care; Develop awareness of systems for financial management, human resources, licensing, and compliance.

Experience: Required

A Bachelor’s degree in Education (or a related field) with some teaching experience.

Experience: Preferred

At least 2 years of teaching experience in a pre-K or elementary school setting. Experience in a nature-based educational school, forest school, or Montessori school.
